As we celebrate Black History Month, the Crystal Stairs, Inc. First Friday ECE Resource Center is featuring our book of the month, “Change Sings” by presidential inaugural poet and activist Amanda Gorman. Join the children on a musical journey, discovering the collective power to enact positive changes in the world, communities, and within themselves.

Prep First with “Make A Sound” Learning Activity
Before you Read Along to the musical journey, make sure to get your instruments ready in this month’s activity!
In today’s Learning Activity, titled “First Fridays: Make A Sound,” we will explore the world of music-making together. Parents and caregivers, lead your children in creating sounds and music using everyday household items or by crafting your own personalized instruments.
Materials Needed for the Activity:
- A pot or pan
- Recycled box/boxes
- Tupperware container
- Cutting board
- Chopsticks and/or craft sticks
- Tissue Box
- Tape
- Rubberbands
- Ruler
First Friday Song: “Rhythm Song Clap Back” by the Brooklyn Music Factory
Children and adults alike will enjoy this “call and response” type of musical experience.
Simply turn up the music and let’s see how well we each can listen and repeat!!
