The Census
is coming in March of 2010
Los Angeles,
CA- The Constitution
requires the Federal government
to count every person living
in the United States every ten
years. The numbers are then used
to help distribute Federal resources
(money, etc.) and to decide how
many seats each state will have
in Congress. It is important
to participate in the Census
every ten years as it is a means
for communities to get the proper
funding and resources appropriate
to the specifics of its population. “The
Census is a critical tool for
determining the level of resources
that go to our community,” says
Holly J. Mitchell, CEO of Crystal
Stairs, Inc. Participation is
required by law and information
given to the Census is confidential
and will not be shared with law
enforcement, immigration or any
other government entity.
The Census will also create many
job opportunities. Up to 70,000 people
in California will be hired to work
from the 54 Census offices across
the state. These include both Spanish
and English speakers. The hourly
wage for a Census enumerator is $22.00.
